Jex Chau, a 24-year-old industrial designer graduate of RMIT University,
came up with a new electric Honda concept, specially designed for Asian
teens that live in urban areas.

As electric cars are expanding into the market, Chau thought to design a
sporty little EV that will fit modern day Asian teens - it has to be swift,
compact and good looking.

"The Racing Electric Vehicle or R-EV is a compact sports vehicle targeting
towards urban Asian teenage markets." said Chau. "It is designed to provide
them with excitement, independence in a densely populated urban environment
and self-expression through personalize potential of this road and club
racing vehicle. R-EV is capable of a leisure drive in the city, excitement
during the race, and provides a personal space for social activity."

Take a look at the gallery to see what Chau’s idea of a race electric
vehicle is.

Electric cars for the masses is a relatively fresh concept in the automotive
industry, and one that still has a long way to go before it can compete in
numbers with sales of conventional engine passenger vehicles for a number of
reasons, ranging from the costs associated with the technology, to
reliability and infrastructure. However, make no mistake; we will see
battery-powered cars increasing in numbers (in terms of both models and
their overall market share) over the years.

Naturally, automotive designers don't have to wait for these problems to be
solved when it comes to imagining electric car concepts like the Honda R-EV
(short for "Racing-Electric Vehicle"), created by Jex Chau (Wing Huen Chau)
from Hong Kong.

As the 24-year old industrial design graduate of RMIT University explains,
"The Racing Electric Vehicle or R-EV is a compact sports vehicle targeting
towards urban Asian teenage markets."

Chau added: "It is designed to provide them with excitement, independence in
a densely populated urban environment and self-expression through
personalize potential of this road and club racing vehicle. R-EV is capable
of a leisure drive in the city, excitement during the race, and provides a
personal space for social activity."

As you can see in the image gallery that follows below, Chau designed the
R-EV to easily transform its appearance from a regular road model to a more
aggressive looking sports car.
