I'm not sure what the prices of lithium are doing, but I suspect lithium is
still undergoing a lot of manufacturing improvements which may decrease the
cost, whereas lead is much the same battery as 80 years ago, so its cost is
largely settled manufacturing costs plus commodity costs of materials.  I
know that lead battery prices have tripled in the past decade, especially
the past 3 to 4 years, with lead prices going up.  Maybe that's hopeful
thinking, as nothing else is coming down in cost recently :)

For the comparison I just did for the EV bug, the price of an AGM lead acid
pack was about 40% that of a lithium pack... and it was rated for 400
cycles to 80% DOD, compared to 1500ish for the lithium pack. So... if the
lithium holds up, it could be justified on that alone.  Better performance
and lighter weight are nice too, though.
