I respectully care to disagree.
While I know I have to pick my battles or get stranded everywhere, I do
not wish to accept zero tolerance (AKA intolerance) and lack of common
sense, since the reason we are moving that way is because some people
benefit from the situation where people are fearful, intolerant and not
risking to decide on their own authority. This shows a lack of love for
fellow human beings and I care to disagree with that behavior, even
though
I encounter it frequently.
I care to live in a world where it is common to give instead of take,
where people are interested to learn about their differences instead of
huddle in a clique, afraid of those differences and in general, where
people do care about each other.
Call me old fashioned or call me idealist - I will wear both as badges
of honor. And I *do* like to meet people who are very different from me,
even
if there is a scare mixed into the joy feeling in that encounter.
Did you ever see the article about the black guy (Daryl Davis)
befriending KKK members?

Of course. This is what you would probably have gotten 20 or 30 years
ago.
Today, you might still, but it's less likely.

Someone mentioned "zero tolerance," which is just another name for
intolerance. I could say more, but it would be straying off topic.

In the novel Les Miserables, Jean Valjean got prison for stealing a loaf
of
bread. Apparently Victor Hugo's message hasn't connected over 150 years

later, if we're seeing people arrested for stealing 5 cents' worth of
electricity.

It's of no help to rail against this attitude. We simply have to deal
with
it. As EVers, we're perceived as unconventional - or, perhaps worse, as

elitist. Both are red flags for many kinds of authority figures.

Be careful out there.
