MW, The OpenChargeMap charging database is open and available to all. People can and do take copies of the database so no risk the data will ever be lost. Submitting data to a commercial and closed database is something I will never do for exactly the reasons Bruce stated.
Data capture and quality control in OpenChargeMap is mainly manual today. However, integration with the Open Vehicle project (http://www.openvehicles.com) will allow us to automatically record charging events in the database and IMO that¹s a significant step forward for us all. Let me know if you have further questions.
