Even though the folks who are affected won't receive this mail, I'm posting
it here in the hope that some will think to check the archive when they
notice they're not getting EVDL mail.

Later I'll try to contact them individually, but ATM I'm short of time. So
my apologies for bothering others with this post.

Hotmail, MSN, and Outlook Live are currently blocking EVDL email. As of
this morning, 23 users had their EVDL mail turned off by our server because
their accounts had been bouncing mail for days (or maybe weeks).

One of the returned error messages says:

host mx4.hotmail.com[65.55.92.152] said: 550 OU-002
    (SNT0-MC2-F23) Unfortunately, messages from 69.163.254.50 weren't sent.
Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their
network
is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to
    http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors. (in reply to MAIL
    FROM command)

The rest look much like this; only the recipient's IP address changes.

Microsoft say we're on their block list. However, I checked a couple of
blacklist meta-engines and we're not listed on anyone else's blacklists.

http://multirbl.valli.org/lookup/69.163.254.50.html

Both give us a clean score.

This is apparently some internal algorithm that MS is using. (Maybe
something like, "You're sending the same message to 23 of our members, you
must be a spammer, so die, scum.")

In the past, AOL has used similar blocks against the EVDL and also against
another (much smaller) email discussion list I operate. AOL is not blocking
us now.

I'll follow up and see what I can do from this end, though my experiences
with AOL were not encouraging. (They eventually lifted the block on their
own.)

I don't know whether it will do any good, but you may want to try contacting
your email provider's support staff - Hotmail, MSN, or Outlook Live - to let
them know that evdl.org and our server at 69.163.254.50 are legit.

Or, you could just use a different email account. MS's email has given the
EVDL various problems for at least 20 years. We have had very little
trouble with Gmail and Yahoo, however. Certainly their anti-spam strategy
seems to be more sophisticated than MS's.

Again, my apologies for bothering the many EVDLers not affected by this
problem.
