% The newswire below shows one of many China made EVs but this (USD$10k) one looks impressive for the price. Not only is it inexpensive, but is seems to have several bells & whistles buyers would want when comparing EVs (China-made or the more expensive foreign-made).
IMO, while it is unlikely U.S. buyers would see any of these being sold here (other than as a de-tuned version nEV), in other parts of the world, a used Chery EV may just make its way across the China border into other neighboring countries. With the large push the China Government is trying to make to compete with the world moving away from chemical-fuel driven transportation, there may be several versions of perfectly good used EVs that are resold elsewhere. This could be a benefit to other countries (lower than low priced EV). But what adaptions/adaptors would be needed to get a charge? How different is China's EVSE connector to other countries? The Chery eQ is an electric vehicle based on the Chery QQ minicar. Price including all green-car subsidies starts at 59.800 yuan and ends at 64.800 yuan. Price without subsidies would start at a hefty 150.000 yuan, making absolutely sure nobody would buy one. The total subsidy is thus 90.200 yuan, showing once more how serious China is about promoting the use of electric cars. Blue = green. Steering wheel and seats are half in red, which is not green. The basic model has a rather boring standard gear lever. Only the most expensive variant gets this: A fuzzy funky knob. It should be standard on all eQ’s, this is the kinda techy stuff people like in an EV. We also like the prominent cigarette lighter. Save the environment but not your lungs. Dials are really cool with all sorts of distracting wizardry going on. The electric motor apparently revs to 8500 rpm, which is impressive. Blue lines to the west and east of the central pod don’t really do anything, they are just looking green while wasting energy. Blue wheels are standard. Decals are not. Chery marketeers have been tinkering with that ‘e’ thing and came up with an English-language slogan: “The e for: electric, easy, enjoy”. Catchy! The electric motor delivers 57hp and 150nm. Battery is lithium-ion. Range is 200 kilometer. Top speed is 100 kilometers per hour. Charging takes 8-10 hours for a full charge on 220V. Blue bits in bumper a fine final touch. [© 2014.
