I am happy that Lee got himself an Electric-ride (its like the announcement
of a new birth), but he did not say what 2013 Leaf trim he bought.

I hope he was wi$e enough to get one with the 6kW on-board charger. Until
Lee says what he has, I will assume that his Leaf only has the more common
3kW half-powered on-board charger.

In reference to the newswire
http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Re-EVLN-Should-Extension-Cords-Be-Used-With-Plugins-don-t-get-burned-tp4673015.html
If anyone knows about power its Lee, so he knows what to do that will fit
his driving and charging needs better than anyone. But for everyone else I
am going to throw some thoughts and links out there for them to consider.

I will also assume that the portable EVSE that Lee said he is using to
charge with, is only a level-1 EVSE (the type that comes standard with a
Leaf EV).

Cor had said his retrofitted/modified AVCON EVSE was from the AVCON company.
So it is either an AVCON powerpak
http://www.evnut.com/images/chargers/avcon/powerpak01.jpg
else it might be an EVII model. In any case I think Cor will offer his at a
fair price. So, the links I provide are not compete with his, but offer
other choices if he runs out of stock.

When I do my public EVSE visits to check up on what state the EVSE is in
(working, etc.), I also mentally note, if the plugin drive is actually
plugged in (or are they just parking there because they think no-harm will
come to them for blocking the space). I also see some interesting uses of
EVSE.

At one location, there was a Volt pih that wisely used their portable
level-1 to charge-n-park all-day, freeing up the L2 for EVs to use. They
protected their L1 EVSE from being dinked/messed-with by running a regular
extension cord from the EVSE to the L1, and put the EVSE in the trunk with
the AC-in cord and J1772 cord-out coming and going from the locked trunk (a
pretty smart plugin driver). This is an easy way to get their charge while
keeping his EVSE from finding a new home or being sold for its copper.

What came to my mind is how Lee will use his two EVSE. IMO, I would want to
do as Cor suggested (power the L2 from a 40A circuit), but wire the L2 EVSE
with a 14-50 plug and use it mostly at home, or in a pinch, it could be made
portable when visiting at grandma's, plugged into their garage dryer outlet,
etc., by also bringing an appropriate adaptor for what outlet is available
(14-50 to 10-30, etc).

In Lee's area, he could look up what public EVSE is available by using
plugshare.com or use the U.S. Fed Gov site
http://www.afdc.energy.gov/locator/stations/results?utf8=%E2%9C%93&location=56377&filtered=true&fuel=ELEC&owner=all&payment=all&ev_level1=true&ev_level2=true&radius=true&radius_miles=55
(there are apps for either of those free EVSE finder resources)

The L1 is so small, light and convenient to use, it would make sense to
think about taking advantage of what evseupgrade offers once Cor's EVSE is
in place for Lee to charge with at home
http://evseupgrade.com/?main_page=products_all

What EVSE Upgrade offers is the lowest price for one of their dual level
(1&2) 3kW EVSE by having the plugin driver send them their L1 EVSE.

One could compare the price of their new dual-level EVSE, to buying another
L1
https://www.google.com/search?output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=evse+level-1&btnG=#tbm=shop&q=evse%20level-1&tbs=vw%3Al%2Cp_ord%3Ap%2Cprice%3A1%2Cppr_min%3A200%2Cppr_max%3A290
plus the cost of the above upgrade offer.

Or compare a different brand of dual-level 3kW portable EVSE, AV's turbocord
http://www.homedepot.com/p/AeroVironment-TurboCord-Dual-120-240-Volt-16-Amp-Plug-In-EV-Charger-Charging-Station-23076-020/205140676?cm_mmc=Shopping|G|Base|PLA|D27E|Electrical&gclid=CPCXqO33wsICFdKEfgodCGsAxg&gclsrc=aw.ds
TurboCord Dual (120 & 240 Volt) 16 Amp Plug-In EV Charger - Charging Station

Always having with-you either a 3kW L2 or a slower L1 charging ability is
quite handy, and being able to lock it up while in use, ensures it will be
there when you come back, is wi$e.
