My own approach to solar would be to have it grid-intertie only,
since I already charge my truck from the grid and can use its
battery bank as backup power if needed (though not automatic,
I need to roll out an extension cord from the 3kVA inverter in my
truck into the house and plug the fridge and other appliances over).

If there would be a prolonged power outage and I have solar panels,
then my approach would be to make sure that I have lower than 400VDC
output from the panels, run that straight into the AC input of a
switching power supply that is used as charger for my truck's battery bank.

There are plenty MPP Tracking (switching) charge controllers that would be
appropriate to charge the battery that supplies the inverter.
There used to be a line of Trace, later Xantrex inverters that could be
both stand-alone and grid intertie and switch on the fly. Utilities did not
like those, it was hard to get approval for them since a mis-wire could make
lines live during a power outage.

I don't know of any currently available battery based inverters that can
accept a PV array input. They all assume that you are using a charge
controller for the DC power coming into the batteries, and they only handle
the power going out for the DC-AC conversion, or charge the batteries from
an AC source.
