So, why aren’t people buying it? I've heard a number of assertions
that a cheap, efficient, small car "should be" the ideal choice for
some segment of people. But, still, the sales are practically
nonexistent.
I can speak for myself: I bought the Leaf because, at the time, it was
only about $2K more than the iMiev but came with ample room for 4
adults, had slightly more range, and came with quick charge.
If I were to buy today, I very well might have bought the iMiev
because the price is so much less. I've only used quick charge a few
times and, without, would simply use a different vehicle for those cases.
I think I mentioned I recently bought an imiev? Because of
unreliability of golf carts and my Zap, I decided to try one as an
"around the farm" vehicle. Examples:

The last album is at a farmers market which was slightly more than a 60
mile round trip. But, I was allowed to 120vac charge for a few hours at
the market. The imiev will hold up to 10 banana boxes in the rear and
two in the passenger seat.
I've found I like to drive it better than my Tesla; I use it for almost
all trips of less than 60 miles.
I've told of my early Leaf problem with a rapidly degrading battery and
Nissan's refusal to make it right. I was down to about 60 miles of
range when I gave up on it. I have hope that the imiev's battery is
much better.
It does seem to be true that Mitsubishi has little interest in selling
imievs. There are several imiev qualified dealers in Austin (30 miles);
none stocked them or offered to get any. A Houston dealer had one or
more but would not respond meaningfully to queries. I finally bought
mine out of Plano (200+ miles) and partially towed it home with the
Tesla. In Texas, my Tesla had $7.5 in incentives, income tax credit
only. On cars sold by dealers, there is a state $2.5k incentive. So,
the imiev is a ~$26k car with $10k in incentives.
At this point, I am VERY pleased with the imiev. But, I recall I was
also very please with my Leaf for it's first year.
