That's normal. Don't stall the motor. It makes bad things happen. > To get home on a weak battery I have had to accelerate in steps or > pulses. There is an alarm that sounds if the voltage on > any cell is too low or too high. The alarm is warning you that you're overdischarging your battery. Doing this repeatedly will damage it permanently. A low voltage alarm means that you should quit driving and get a charge. If it's happening at (say) 58 miles and it used to happen at 75 miles, it could be that your battery has developed a weak cell. Or maybe nothing's wrong; it's just that you're using more energy in your drive than you used to. Cold weather can cause this, because your vehicle uses more energy per mile, and the battery also has less capacity when it's cold. However, we can't judge what your range should be, since we don't know much about your EV or driving habits. Please tell us more. Presumably it's a conversion, what is the base vehicle? What does it weigh? How many cells are in the battery, and what capacity (amp-hours) is each? What kind of driving do you do, mostly city stop-and-go, or more highway? Do you navigate many hills there? Where do you live? Is it cold there now? > I have asked this same question elsewhere and I got back shrieks of how > I am breaking the laws of physics, motion or thermodynamics. I can't > break those laws so I frankly have stopped worrying about it. You're right, you're not breaking those laws. They're natural laws, not human laws. It's not possible to break them. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't concern yourself with them. Please answer the questions above (and maybe some more), and we'll see if we can figure out what's going on with your EV.
