Hi Folks,

Just an FYI, I'm selling my electric Karmann Ghia 1974 (last month made
June).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/232135937887?

After much thrashing around I think I'll buy a used 2013-2014 Chevy Spark EV
(in Md) (after selling the Ghia), although the Spark is a compliance car it
has good performance and 82 mile range a bit better than the iMiEV at 62
miles. Both have 100K/8 year battery warranty. The Spark (2800lbs) costs
more though, $13K vs $8-10K for 2013 iMiEV's (2500lbs).

Initially I was thinking of a Smart ForTwo ED but the last straw with
Mercedes was requiring me to tow on a flat bed trailer up to Wash DC (250
miles - since the local Mercedes dealer refuses to service/sell Smarts)
annually for a $300 "battery check" service in order to keep the battery
warranty or "BAP" plan in effect. Most/all used Smart ED car prices require
you to add $5.1K to the price to "buy" the battery or continue the $80 per
month battery fee for 10 years ($9600 extra) - usually a nasty surprise to
the car buyer after he/she gets it home. From what I see Mercedes is doing
their best to kill the Smart EV. They've certainly driven me away from it
(pun intended). The local Mercedes dealer said they'd rather sell their
foo-foo Mercedes cars with high prices/profit margins than fool with Smart
Cars. Smart should have their own dealers or sell through a common man
priced car- dealers like Chevy, Toyota etc with a standard 100K 8 year
battery warranty like everyone else. I guess the half warranty 50K/4 years
is because it's half a car J but not half the price, certainly with the
"battery not included" extra battery cost L.

I already have a 2013 Leaf, definitely the *best* family car, getting 92
miles range, seats 5 and getting 4 miles per kWh or 250 watt hours per mile,
amazing at 3300 lbs.

Have a renewable energy day,

Mark
