Runways are slightly better instrumented than your average road....

Category 3 Instrument Landing Systems and approaches are are full AutoLand and 
have been around for decades.  Requires special equipment in the aircraft and 
special pilot certification.

I believe Boeing has been working on landings, but relying on precise GPS 
rather than stripes on the landing strip.
