I appreciate the previous replies to my question about buying a used 500e. I think the uncertainty over the availability of service in the LA area at what seem to be rapidly dwindling and morphing Fiat dealerships has swayed me against committing to used model, as much as I liked driving mine. So I'm considering primarily 2016 and later used EVs by other makers. I've got some more neophyte questions and would appreciate suggestions:
My understanding from what I've read, including several helpful recent posts, is that even if the Leaf's range drops some, it's not catastrophic for a good while. Of course I'll take all the range I can get, but I can live within a roughly 80-mile range if I have to. All the additional information I can get to confirm or dispute that understanding that would be greatly appreciated. It seems like I can have confidence that Nissan will stand behind its car generally, but at what price? In other words, I'm beginning to learn about the company's promise (?) to replace batteries when capacity drops below 9 bars, but how long is that commitment good for and does it apply to used cars? No matter what, it's better than Fiat's absolute lack of any commitment short of complete battery failure, right? I'm somewhat vague on the state of California law regarding warranties and warranties for used EVs. My understanding was that the state's stricter than others, but I'd expected that to be clearer online. Any pointers on places to read up would be great. I'm also mulling over a used Kia Soul EV. I saw some general answers in the list archives, but nothing real substantive except an alert about steering issues. Anybody have anything on the kinds of issues I've touched on, for the Soul? Does the delay in delivering the upgrade to US buyers signal anything regarding the company's commitment to the market here? Finally, a used e-golf is also a possibility. In going through the archives, so far I haven't found articles that answer the kinds of questions I'm asking here. If somebody else has embarked on a similar search and still has links to information or advice, I'd be grateful.
