Just a guess, but based on the power required for an EV, I'd guess that 100 lbs 
worth of LiIon batteries would power your train for 3-4 hours continuously. 
Add in Lee's idea for charging the train when it's stopped to load/unload 
passengers and that might be enough for all day fun.
If not, you can always add another 100 lbs of batteries.

You could do it with golf cart batteries, but those would probably weigh 500 
lbs to provide the same runtime and longevity.
