that would be a relatively small market. If the manufacturer made $500
profit per battery, that would be $25M profit before taxes. R&D +
manufacturing staff would eat up a good chunk of that. I have no idea
what it would cost to setup manufacturing and buy raw materials.
But if it could be done, I'd probably buy one. I think it would directly
translate to an increase in the sales value, if I didn't end up keeping
it very long. And it would make it a lot more useful that it is now
(about 30 miles range on a full charge in winter). In fact, just an
inexpensive 30kwh pack with thermal management would be sufficient.

That is certainly the case. Can anyone explain why no one is supplying ~50kwh batteries
to "drop in" old Leafs at a cost of $5k-$7k?
