7 years (2013-2020) is a pretty good run for an ordinary car battery. Do

No; you don't need a starter battery. But a deep-cycle type (AGM or gel)
would be a good choice. The main stress on the battery is if you leave
it parked and unplugged for weeks on end. All the parasitic loads on the
12v battery are what will run it dead.
