I've towed infrequently with both S and 3. I guess I might worry about tow rating if I wanted to tow a large fraction of total miles.
I've towed more than the hitch rating of 2000 pounds with the S. But at low speeds on very low traffic roads.
Recently, driving an imiev, I was following a big pickup towing a flatbed with a loaded tractor as the trailer bounced off the trailer ball hitch. Probably no safety chains. Trailer went through a barbed wire fence but came to a stop within a couple of hundred feet. Had there been oncoming traffic and had the trailer gone the other way, could have been a big deal.
