When I fast charge on the Road to 80% with my Bolt EV it takes about
an hour to put back 25KWH. The manual says it should be 55kwh in an
hour. Does anyone know why it’s not charging at the 55KW rate?
What the advertising claims and what they actually deliver are often two
different things. Maybe that 55 KW is only the peak; not the average?
Maybe the particular charging site is limited to 25 KW? Maybe the
batteries were too close to full, or too hot, or too cold?
Also I paid 43c per kWh at Sheetz near Charlottesville Va (home is 12c).
I wonder how they can do this, too. In just about every locale,
utilities were granted a legal monopoly on selling electricity. In
return for that, they had to agree to allow Public Utility Commissions
set the rates. Otherwise, the utilities could (and would) charge
outrageous rates (like any monopoly).
I saw on the news that folks in Texas are paying $100s per KWH and
utilities cleaning out checking accounts $10k-$16k since direct link
to accounts. How is this even possible to charge that much per KWh?
I suspect we're seeing an example of what weak regulations on a monopoly
can do.
"You're paying $100/KWH for electricity? Sorry, it's in the contract."
"You paid a $50 fee for a $0.10 overdraft? Sorry, that's our rules."
"You lost your home due to the balloon payment clause? Sorry. It's in
the fine print?"
"Your damage isn't covered despite it being insured? Sorry; Read the
policy."
"And you can't sue us. That's in there, too."
