An older vehicle that you really like and is in good shape is a good candidate for a conversion. That's especially true if your performance requirements aren't too stringent.

I have looked and may look some more. I may just wait for a production vehicle that will do what I need.

You (and I) may be waiting a long time. The carmakers mainly build the vehicles their dealers want to *sell* -- not what customers want. They depend on advertising to tell people what they want.
