This is an argument from the perspective of Proprietary vs Open Source.
I summarize it as follows:


   - Low upfront cost – download the software, setup and just go, see if it
   works as advertised (can be extended by consultants or specialist company)
   - Low risk of take-over – vendors buying vendors, where do you stand if
   your platform is retired, can the user experience be transferred
   - Empowers the IT department – over a period of time your IT department
   can develop the skills to manage the system on their own
