I think you need to start your explanation from whatever basic principles you started from, and explain how you reached your conclusions. Just saying "the universe works THIS way" and expecting everyone to agree (or if not, saying they don't have an "open mind") is very ... reminiscent of certain other "theories" that have appeared on this list. Once their author resorts to rhetorical tricks rather than giving a clear explanation, I start to feel that it's time to say "Next, please!" Bruno is a classic example of how to do this correctly. He has what many consider to be a wild theory, but he explains the starting assumptions and demonstrates each step of his reasoning.
