Liz, not everyone shares your values in this old world. You fear for the innocent, which is good, but lets face it, most of those convicted appear to be guilty. The problem is the western legal world is that there is no real control over prosecutors and judges who perform malpractice. In the Islamic world, it doesn't appear to be a search for truth, but the employment of fatwas, and the use of sharia law in all muslim lands, and hadood laws in Pakistan. Because if the laws are wrong then muhammed is wrong, if muhammed is wrong, then archangel gabriel is wrong, if gabriel is wrong then allah is wrong, if allah is wrong then maybe he doesn't exist as the arab nation describes, if this is true, no afterlife. This, for them, is too much to sacrifice.

There is always some doubt. If you kill someone and find out they were innocent, you can't undo it.
