It worked for Ugh the Caveman didn't it? Why wouldn't it continue to work? The thinking in this idea you mention is that marvelous North American statement of oblivion "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" The reason why guns remain is because in the past they worked a treat. You could see the whites of their eyes then you pulled the trigger. Problem solved. The way the human mind is designed involves this woeful thing called "tradition" which is about the dog returning to its vomit in terms of thinking. Guns are traditional and therefore emanating from exactly the same part of the North American brain that also secretes things like Bible worship and other deeply-embedded algorithms of past decision-making, this thinking now frozen as a pattern of recognition. When the planes hit the WTC, Dubya's first thought (apparently, according to him) was "This is a war. There is no other interpretation of the events" - in other words he reached straight for his holster, before entertaining any other line of action. Guns n Bibles. Welcome to America. The funny part is, we are supposed to study History in order to learn the lessons of the past. In fact all we are doing when we do that is brushing up our game - a game homo sapiens have played (the ONLY game HS have played continually since Ugh's day and only now played with better special effects).
