Probably much simpler, not necessarily smarter, and unconcerned with 
ethics. What Lawrence fears essentially happened on Easter Island according 
to a documentary I viewed recently. Population crashed and the few 
survivors has somewhere else to go. If as a specie we destroy our life 
support systems, we'll have nowhere to go.  AG
