The addition function is not material too. But we can program it in a computer, 
and the computer will inherit the correct addition-behaviour.

A brain is not a heart, but it makes sense, at least, to assume it is a Turing 
universal machine, and nothing more. If copied at some right level, it will 
have the corresponding behaviour.

What about all evidence that our memories are coded in our brain, even in 
Facebook, that is the net is already a sort of brain extension, a 
Neo-neo-cortex with our pictures, videos, etc.

Then, study computer science, which is, fundamentally, a theory of 
self-reference, or diagonalisation, of all sorts. See my paper “Amoeba, 
Planaria and Dreaming machine” which explains how a fundamental theorem in 
Computer Science (by Kleene) not only solve the self-reproduction, and 
embryogenesis difficulties, but also the ability for a machine to develop a 
fist person apprehension of itself.
