The addition function is not material too. But we can program it in a computer, and the computer will inherit the correct addition-behaviour. A brain is not a heart, but it makes sense, at least, to assume it is a Turing universal machine, and nothing more. If copied at some right level, it will have the corresponding behaviour. > So if you "copy" a brain, you will only end up with a dead piece of flesh. > And even if you somehow manage to open the doors for consciousness to act > upon the brain, that consciousness will not have any memory, since memories > are not stored in the brain, so you would only get a baby in the body of an > adult. What about all evidence that our memories are coded in our brain, even in Facebook, that is the net is already a sort of brain extension, a Neo-neo-cortex with our pictures, videos, etc. Then, study computer science, which is, fundamentally, a theory of self-reference, or diagonalisation, of all sorts. See my paper “Amoeba, Planaria and Dreaming machine” which explains how a fundamental theorem in Computer Science (by Kleene) not only solve the self-reproduction, and embryogenesis difficulties, but also the ability for a machine to develop a fist person apprehension of itself.
