Yeah, a jabber backend would be pretty cool. I've never been too keen on the idea of using Jabber as a carrier for the other IM services; you're giving yourself a single point of failure in the Jabber server, and I think it would make the interfaces a bit uglier to try to support it nicely in Evo.
