Thank you everyone for all the help,  and yes they are way too
lazy....I'm sending the directions to those who are at least partially
competent to delete the file and those who aren't will  have to bring in
their laptops!

Alternately, when the type the name in the "To:" box and the
autocomplete
list of names pops up, the can simply arrow down and hit the delete key
for
that address.  Then Outlook will have to resolve that name to what is in
the
GAL again and this time it won't bounce.

I'm assuming Outlook2k or XP.  Of course, this would still require the
user
to do this and it sounds like they're too lazy anyway.

And it lives in
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
