Well, if I understand her problem right, sticking a mail gateway in front won't do any good. I'm guessing that the problem lies in the SMTP headers, the spam filter sees the server name in them and filters it. She could even configure the default SMTP virtual server to use a different name, but the message ID that's generated would still have MSEXPKCE in the name, causing the filter to kick in.
