Realy ? That's a bit worrisome for me. I have two servers I'm working on,
(1 SQL 2K and 1 Ex203) each with a 2disk RAID 0+1 and a 3 disk RAID 5.
(Those are both striping sets, aren't they?).

I had hoped to use some of the extra disk space on these two machines to
make a separate partition for some computer admin storage. (install files
and drivers on one, SUS-type things on another). I take it that you wouldn't
recommend separate partitions on the RAID 5 then? (Separate partitions would
be convenient for keeping our "other stuff" from accidentally clobbering the
critical applications, but I'm sure I can find another way.)

Keeps the logs from being able to overrun the OS - and you never want the OS
drive to run out of space, all sorts of crap happens then.

With RAID1 (when the vendor does it right) there's not a significant
performance impact from making two partitions. Three or more there would be
no matter who made the controller. Also, any striped RAID there's always a
big performance hit for partitions.
