I always Assumed it was the anti virus software scanning the attachment and not anything to do with Outlook by itself. (never verified it though) If your Antivirus supports Outlook try turning it off as a test.

This is ridiculous - even if it was an accident, or it happens to be the 1st message in their unread messages list (which newest ones are always on top) - they are literally stuck sitting there, while this huge attachment (which they may not even want to open) comes over the wire. Is there some setting inside of Outlook, where you can click on a message, but NOT have any attachments automatically brought over??? This would be a God-Send if I could get that to work. If all my users get their way (due to their frustrations with this issue), we will be back using Outlook Express, using POP3 - which is an terrible solution (from an IT guys standpoint). Any ideas, that could help me deal with this problem?
