Proper engineers use version control, drawing1334-334a.dwg, next version
drawing1334-334-a.dwg is opened up and saved as drawing1334-334-b.dwg and them mods
are done.
Increases disk space but reduces user downtime and yours....... clean up old versions
as required.

If you have a server with closed projects set to read only, you would only need to
backup every tiem you added new closed projects. (Say once a month) So only one backup
is added each month..

They go to the backups constantly because the projects change
constantly. I
have had a request for the same project 4 times in less than a week. The
client will ask for a major change in the site plan, and they will make
it,
and then the next morning the client will ask them to change it back to
the
way it was. Or go a whole different direction based on an even earlier
DWG
file. They are constantly redoing and changing things based on plans
sent
out over the lifetime of a project. Not just the last plans sent out. I
was
thinking about proposing a server that had read only access to closed
projects. It is a useful idea. But that brings us back to the backups
nightmare again.
I guess for some reason they think it is cheaper to have me sit here
bored
out of my skull than to have it automated. All these suggestions and
comments are helping me to form my argument and proposal.
Thanks again
Rachel
