Did you configure things on the back-end server for it to recognize the front-end?
I normally create new virtual HTTP servers on the back-end whose name and header matches the front-end server's name. I know other people don't do it, but that's how I have been doing it since the very begginning because that's what Exchange hosting whitepapers told me to do.
