Well, kinda. You install the certificate per Server, but you configure
the SSL settings per Virtual Directory, such as Public, Exchange, etc.

SSL settings will be set in IIS Admin, not ESM. Go to the properties of
the Exchange and Public directories in IIS Admin and then go to the
Directory Security Tab, then the Secure Communications portion. If you
have a cert installed on the server, you should have the Edit option
available. Tick the box to require SSL and 128-bit.

SSL per virtual directory? I don't think that would be do-able. You can
set up SSL per virtual server.

No, but then it will let you create mailboxes there and we don't want
that.
Since it will only be serving as an HTTP OWA Front End most references
refer to removing the Stores and stopping the service.

As yet we have jumped all around my real problem of how do I trouble
shoot the 403 errors that we are receiving and how do I set individual
SSL settings per virtual directory.

You don't have to remove the IS to make it a front-end.

Subject: Front End Server Problems

We are trying to set up a Front End Server but keep getting 403
forbidden errors from the Front End. We can access the Back end
directly via OWA with no problems.

The server was operating fine in test mode as a Back end server for the
test mailbox on it, but would not redirect users to the other back end
server in tests.

I have been following the MS White Paper and the 24/7 book and have
removed the IS and checked "This is a Front End Server", but the M:
drive doesn't connect to the system correctly and I can't access the
"Directory Security"
tab in IIS Admin to enable SSL. I have an M: but can't access it.

Any Ideas?
