Depending on how many users will be on your machine, the size of the
drives available for your database and how busy your users will be on
mail, you may want to rethink using RAID-5 for your database.
If you expect to have 16 Gbytes of mail data, and have 30+
gbyte drives, I would opt for a RAID-1 configuration on your database,
leaving the last drive for your maintenance space.
Remember for each WRITE operation on a RAID-5 array, you have to
complete 4 disk i/o operations. You can become disk I/O bound much more
easily that you might think using RAID-5.

Subject: Exchange 2003 performance
Im setting up a new Exchange 2003 server and my question is how I should
configure it to get the best performance. The machine have 5 disks, two
disks in a RAID-1 configuration that holds the OS, and three disks in a
RAID-5 configuration that will hold the database, where should I put the
logs to get the best performance, on the RAID-1 with the OS or the
RAID-5 with the database?
