We used exmerge before eseutil on a 5,5 exchange server with the same problems. 100 
percent util. We then ran eseutil
to fix the corruption in the priv.edb. There was no backup. Server does not belong to 
us we were just asked to fix it.
Granted it takes an enourmous amount of time to exmerge mailboxes out with a server 
running 100 percent cpu. But at least with the exmerged mailboxes we could convert to 
pst's if data somebody needed was disgarded. We were lucky so far and no one is 
looking for that lost spreadsheet. Corruption was caused by a faulty scsi controller.

We were having many problems on our exchange 5.5 server. Store.exe was
crashing and was runnign 100%CPU. We ran eseutil /ispriv /g  and eseutil /p
/ispriv /x. It found many bad items (over 5000) Now users are companing they
lost some or all of their attachements. Is there anything we can do to
prevent it from happening again? What could we have done differently?
