>From what Chris says, the web interface isn't necessary for Contacts or Calendars. It sounds like Entourage just mixes the shared appointments and Contacts in with your own, but assigns them a different catagory. I can see advantages to this approach over the standard Outlook way, such as it'll make the shared Contacts much easier to use in emails. In Outlook (at least Outlook 2K) you can't set another user's Contacts folder as an Outlook address book so there's no way to type in a name from such a shared folder and have it resolve into the desired address.
It's Public Folders, I think, that require the web interface. -Peter -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of David Stark Sent: Wednesday, 23 June, 2004 10:18 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Fully Qualified Domain Name and Macintoshes Chris, Not at all, and thank you for the additional post on Entourage resources. Now that I've got Exchange working. I need to figure out what is necessary to share calendars and contacts. Is it true, as some have indicated, those features are only available via web interface? Or am I misunderstanding? I've been on the road for the last 48 hours and I'm beat. I reread my note after I hit send and I'm sorry if it sounded like I was mocking the capabilities of Outlook 2003. It's not bad for what it does... being a Windows application and all. ;) -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Chris Scharff Posted At: Wednesday, June 23, 2004 11:36 AM Posted To: swynk Conversation: Fully Qualified Domain Name and Macintoshes Subject: RE: Fully Qualified Domain Name and Macintoshes http://tinyurl.com/23uaa Access another person's Exchange mailbox Do you sometimes need to take charge of your traveling boss's Calendar and Address Book? Or perhaps you need to keep an eye on a colleague's e-mail during a vacation. By using Microsoft Entourage, you can manage the information in another person's Exchange mailbox. All you need is permission, granted in the form of delegate access." <snip> Add another person's mailbox to your account On the Tools menu, click Accounts. Click the Exchange tab, click your Exchange account, and then click Edit. On the Delegate tab, click Add, and then type the user name or alias of the person who granted you delegate access. <snip> Events and contacts that belong to the person for whom you are a delegate are added to your Calendar and Address Book. To help you keep track of whose information is whose, items that belong to the other person are assigned to a special category, named after that person's display name. ----------------------------------------------------------- And you can also take advantage of the tried and true equivalent to the "Microsoft Outlook Project Center". That's an absolutely amazing collaborative feature finally available to Entourage users while Outlook users have had this feature fornever.... oops. Like I mentioned previously, Entourage has, by dropping out of the "make Mac users work under a Windows paradigm" found some slick areas for innovation. The Entourage Project Center http://maczealots.com/tutorials/project-center/ is certainly a rev1 take on an idea, but the potential of the idea is pretty amazing IMO. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Durkee, Peter Posted At: Wednesday, June 23, 2004 11:02 AM Posted To: swynk Conversation: Fully Qualified Domain Name and Macintoshes Subject: RE: Fully Qualified Domain Name and Macintoshes I'm sorry to hear that Contact and Calendar sharing was one of your goals, as I don't think that's possible under Entourage. Outlook 2001, will do the job for you if you don't object to the classic environment. In Windows terms it's at about the same level of functionality as Outlook 97, but that's not such a bad thing unless you love HTML email, and it certainly has no problems looking at other users' calendars or contacts. -Peter -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of David Stark Sent: Tuesday, 22 June, 2004 22:00 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Fully Qualified Domain Name and Macintoshes Gentlemen, [Peter, Ed, Matthew, Steve, David, and Jim] Thank you for your posts with suggestions, pertinent feedback, and opinions. After installing Hotfix 831464 and SP1 on SBS2003, and updating Entourage to 10.1.5, I have had better results. Now I'm only getting Username/Password errors, which I think were due to my "editing" the usernames after creating them. For example, dstark became David Stark. Do spaces create a problem in an account username? I wouldn't think so, since editing it did not provide any warnings about it. Tonight I will finish the updates on all the Entourage clients and create new user accounts to see what shakes out from that. Any way, I feel I am closer to success. I am disappointed by some of your comments about Exchange and Entourage. Especially, as Matthew Joyce said, "I have to say it's not that great. Certainly not the integration wonderland MS suggested it would be". This is the main reason we chose SBS2003 over a MacOSX Server: for Calendaring and Contact sharing. Very disappointing news. Continue with the feedback, suggestions, and support if you have any. I'll update you on my progress. Also, one of you asked about versions: (now)Mac OSX 10.3.4, (now)Office X 10.1.5, SBS2003 w/all critical updates and Hotfix and SP1. Certainly not the integration wonderland MS suggested it would be. It uses OWA for public folder iirc too. Try using the ip address instead of the server name. Make sure the macs are using a dns server which has your .local entry. There are several patches to Entourage available. I have never had any success using the server name alone.
