I have used Entourage remotely to connect to my Exchange server. It typically won't resolve .local domains all that well remotely (just as an FYI). Not impossible of course, but with the root .local name servers being down and all, it can be kinda tricky. There's your feature parity! RPC over HTTPs... very tricky as well. See how much Microsoft loves you? :)
While there are certainly a number of folks who share your sentiments with regards to Microsoft's decisions around client platform for the Mac, I am absolutely not one of them.
