I can vouch for what Ken says of the Mailguard feature, I've seen mail
delivery problems with it with 2 models of PIX and 3 different
versions of IOS, especially when trying to deliver to Notes servers.
What I've seen is the SMTP connection failing right after the BDAT
command, but I've heard from other people that it's caused other
problems for them. Cisco of course denies it's the PIX causing the
problem and plays dumb when confronted with the fact that the problem
goes away once mailguard is turned off.
