I've used 4.0 before. For the most part it worked but I had some
issues with copying of backup set data. We backed up to NAS devices,
and when we needed to get a paticular backup set copied to another
physical location we ran into some issues; we were under time
constraints so we did a copy operation to a file server at a location
that was not the final destination, then found out we could not copy
the "copied" data to it's final location through commvault, some sort
of limitation in the software wouldn't let us (we could have just
copied the files through the OS, but then we woldn't be able to
"import" them back into commvault to do a restore). The commvault
tech support I talked to said this was fixed in the latest version. I
also didn't like their method for doing software patches, it was a bit
of a mess and a pain to try and keep track of what patches needed to
be applied. There were a lot of patches to be applied, which is a
good thing because it shows they're genuinely trying to fix bugs, but
trying to figure out which pacthes were "rolled up" into later patches
was difficult using their website, I spent a lot of time maintaining a
patch matrix in Excel so I would know what patches were needed where,
and if they had been applied. Their tech support had it's good and
bad moments. Sometimes I'd get a tech support rep who really knew his
stuff, sometimes I'd get a guy who didn't seem to know much and had to
consult with others a lot (which is better than some software
companies who employ nothing but complete idiots as tech support
*cough*NetIQ*cough*).
