Yep, I use the IMF with a gateway setting of 8 and a junk-mail folder setting of 3, as well as the spamhaus.org xbl+sbl DNSBL for connection filtering. I reduced spam getting into the inbox by about 92%, though your mileage may vary. I tried a gateway setting of 7 but it was occasionally catching legit mail from the bugtraq mailing list.
