I always thought that you could reconnect to any non-mail-enabled account.

It should be noted that the account needs to be named the same to associate
the mailbox back to it. At least, that is my experience under Exchange
2003. Not sure if it checks against the account name or the exchange alias.
The display name shouldn't matter.

Did he purge the mailbox too? If not, just associating the mailbox to a new
AD account, all mailbox content should still be there.

I'm in the process of doing this. So there's no hope in restoring the
mailbox object and contents using BackupExec?

Associate the orphaned mailbox with an AD account.

Subject: Account deleted in AD

One of our admins inadvertently deleted an account in AD this morning.
When he tried to restore mailbox from last night's tape, BackUpExec failed,
saying it could not attach to one of the drives.
I went to system manager and saw the deleted mailbox was still there.
So can I associate it with another AD account that doesn't have a mailbox,
Restore from tape to a PST file, create a new account and mailbox and import
PST file into it? We're running EX2K.

Thanks
