DNS on both is the same, and they are both on the same local segment. Nothing's blocking 389 that I'm aware of. How can I get the DC to just use the new box instead?

It is saying that the LDAP searach failed. It makes me think that maybe it is not finding the GC correctly. Or maybe port 389 is closed somewhere? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Pat Richard Sent: Monday, June 26, 2006 10:58 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: error c10308a2 when attempting to add/edit SMTP addresses from DC Hopefully, this will make sense. We've been having an issue for quite a while that I was hoping would go away when I added another box for migration. I'm replacing an Exchange server with a new box. If I log onto a DC and try to edit or add an SMTP address to an AD account I get the following: ================================================================== Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension An Exchange Server could not be found in the domain. Check if the Microsoft System Attendant service is running on the Exchange Server. ID no: c10308a2 Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension ================================================================== I can remove SMTP addresses without a problem. I cannot add SMTP addresses. I cannot edit SMTP addresses. If I log onto the "old" box, which is also a DC/GC, I can perform the tasks without problem. But this box is going away as soon as I resolve this. I noticed a bunch of event 2061 entries on the "old" box as well: ================================================================== Process MAD.EXE (PID=2300). An LDAP search call failed - Server=kcc_mail.mydomain.org Error code=80040957. Base DN=, Filter=(legacyExchangeDN=), Scope=2. ================================================================== I've looked at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Exch ange&ProdVer=6.5.0000.0&EvtID=2061&EvtSrc=MSExchangeDSAccess&LCID=1033 <http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Exc hange&ProdVer=6.5.0000.0&EvtID=2061&EvtSrc=MSExchangeDSAccess&LCID=1033> and the Directory Services tab for both servers looks fine. They both list the GCs and DCs. Some online resources say it could be LegacyExchangeDN, but it appears fine for both servers. I'll add that there are NO errors on the new server. I've looked at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=905809. The accounts I'm using are Domain Admins/Enterprise Admins, with FULL EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATOR delegated rights. I don't see any trace of the hardening templates. So, I'm not sure the listed cause is really what I'm experiencing. I was hoping that by going through the rest of the migration would cause this to go away, but that hasn't been the case. I've gone through 822931 with no other issues, and functionality is otherwise fine. environment Two Exchange servers running Exchange 2003 Enterprise SP2 w/ all updates "old" server is Windows 2000 Server SP4 and is a DC/GC with 1GB RAM "new" server is Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 and is a member server with 4GB RAM As soon as I can do normal Exchange tasks from the DC, I can finish removing the "old" server. But, since it's the only way I can add/edit SMTP addresses, I can't yank it out just yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This client is a church, and I'd hate for them to have to pony up for a PSS call. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
