Nate is right, You can't guarantee his IIS won't crash again. However your customer need only spend 5 minutes on any major IT/Messaging website (most of all Microsoft.com/exchange) to know that Exchange 5.5 has been out of date for nearly 6 years now. That is eons in our industry.
In addition, your OWA is depending on IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000. That's fine, but that Windows 2000. 2003 and IIS 6.0 is going to be more stable and perform better (so long as they are putting the proper hardware in place). Explain that Exchange 5.5 is no longer supported by its vendor. This would be the same as him buying a Honda civic from 1990, and Honda stating that they won't work on his car anymore because its so old and the technology in it is so outdated that its just not even worth spending time on. Upgrade already! Show him the OWA from an Exchange 2003 installation and he will see the difference. OWA in 5.5 is crap, plain and simple. If you need documentation on why Exchange 2003 is better than Exchange 5.5, Microsoft.com is your solution. Do a simple examination of the features of 2003 and you'll have your answer. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Couch, Nate Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2006 2:54 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 5.5 query -VERY URGENT First, your customer has unrealistic expectations in asking you to guarantee it willl never happen again. You cannot, in good conscience make such a guarantee. If he/she wants that then have them go back to pen and paper, or telephone. Having said all that, E2K3 is good tech and works very well, but it is not perfect. The main things I have seen are 1) make sure you have a stable AD, 2) make sure you connectivity is good between the two environments, 3)once you begin migration do not stop until it is done. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Pankaj Mittal Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2006 9:18 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Exchange 5.5 query -VERY URGENT Importance: High Guys, Sorry for an out dated post on a discarded product. My Client have a exchange 5.5 server with sp4 on Windows 2000 server. The www services hangs up often & people cant connect to OWA. Also nothing comes up in event logs. I had tried explaining the client but he wants to know what assurity it will have, that after migration to exch2k or exck2k3 this will not hang up. Also does this have something do with Licensing as well? I know this is too old for exchange5.5(Already discarded from MS). I am trying to convince him to migrate to Newer version of Exchange but i need support documents.. Any links or pointers will be helpful.
