What happens if you open one of those PST files in Outlook 2007? Do you see the additional items? How were these PST files made? ExMerge?

I need some advice about some old PST archive files we have (made under E2K3). They're archival files, around a gig or so in size, but that's not a problem. But I've discovered that we had run up against the 16,383 item limit to a PST. So I can search these old files with various search tools, but I only get maybe half or a third of the messages that are in the file, the remainder (beyond 16,383) just disappear out of the index. With the new features available in OL2K7 and the new PST file architecture, is there anything I can do to get the 'lost' data out of these old files?
