Opening it shouldn't ask you what file type you want it to be. Only
creating a new PST file should ask you that question.

Subject: RE: Old PST files needing help

Well, when I open the archive in 2003, even if I specify I want it
created as the 'new' type, it still maintains it as a "97-2002" file and
I'm still stuck with the same number of items. I'm going to try 2007
next and see if I can cause a 'conversion'...

Thanks,

DAF

I'm not sure your problem is what you think your problem is...

>From KB 279122: Beginning with OL2002, Outlook automatically upgrades
the .PST file when a folder exceeds 16,383 items.

What version of Outlook are you working with now?

Subject: Old PST files needing help

Crossposted, looking for a solution...

I need some advice about some old PST archive files we have (made under
E2K3). They're archival files, around a gig or so in size, but that's
not a problem. But I've discovered that we had run up against the
16,383 item limit to a PST. So I can search these old files with
various search tools, but I only get maybe half or a third of the
messages that are in the file, the remainder (beyond 16,383) just
disappear out of the index.

With the new features available in OL2K7 and the new PST file
architecture, is there anything I can do to get the 'lost' data out of
these old files?

Thanks,

David
