Below is the information that I used to give out on a regular basis. As you can see PST's can have more than 16,000 items under certain circumstances.
ANSI: Legacy PST(Outlook 97 - 2002) File Size: 2GB max (reads about 1.92GB in Explorer) Large Table Support not Enabled (Default) * 16,000 folders * 16,000 items per folder Large Table Support Enabled * 65,000 folders * 65,000 items per folder To enable Large Table support, right click on Personal Folders and select properties. Select Advanced. Check the box to enable large table support and select OK until you return to the main window. I haven't done OL2007 yet, but I will. I see that in 2003, even if I try and open a PF under the 'new' type, it doesn't convert it. So I can search these old files with various search tools, but I only get maybe half or a third of the messages that are in the file, the remainder (beyond 16,383) just disappear out of the index. With the new features available in OL2K7 and the new PST file architecture, is there anything I can do to get the 'lost' data out of these old files?
