My roaming users typically connect VPN so that would not be too much of an
issue.

But you're right, the attachments would not be directly accessible via OWA or
CRM via http... Perhaps you might publish the file folder with web/ftp or use
a rule to duplicate the messages complete with attachments in a temporary
folder, for short term use (OWA in my company is typically used only for very
recent emails, a week / a month old max). Or use Terminal Services (or RWW
Remote Web Workplace on SBS)

Just out of curiosity what happens if the user is connected from outside? , I
ask this because I face the same issue I have maybe 60 odd users and I'm at
about 50 gigs on the STORE, how would they get to an attachment do you make
the storage folder accessible from outside too?

This is a good point.

However in my company (small shop - 12 people) file storage is cheap, while
Exchange and SQL storage is not (talking about backup/recovery procedures).
I would't care that much to have dozens of GB's of junk stripped files
somewhere on a NAS, if that can save even a few GB in Exchange and CRM/SQL
stores.

However yours is a good point, to take into account. Thanks.

Alberto

My biggest fear would be the sheer amount of attachments that would be stored
somewhere and never knowing if I need to keep it or not. We get quite a few
attachments in there that are nothing more than video clips, etc. or multiple
announcements for new products going to different magazines. I could see where,
at some point, you don't know what you can delete, because it is no longer
needed and what needs to be kept because it is a good attachment but the email
is archived.
