My experience is that corporate lawyers spend lots and lots and lots and
lots of time focusing on eliminating risks that are likely to never occur or
have any impact.  I've often wondered why corporations don't just fire the
lot of them and spend some of the money on a huge insurance policy.  I
believe they'd end up many dollars ahead.

not staggering at all.  Are you forgetting that lawyers get paid for
repairing the damage from security breaches?
On second thought, so do we.  If we don't get fired first.  Lawyers are just
better at not getting fired than we are.
