Restart IIS on the box pointed to by external DNS. Can't hurt, might help.

not sure I understood the q,
Hoster has autodiscover.domain.com published and it DOES resolve from outside, 
it just fails ExCra testing,
 internally  autodiscover.domain.com doesnt resolve (w2k8 DNS server)
