The potential risk is very low, unless you want to put another server of the
same name back in.

Eventually, you'll need to cleanly remove the server.

The only potential issue I can think of is based on whether you have an IU
installed. If you do, you'll need to have the media loaded for both the
prior SP and UR.

Subject: [Exchange] CAS server removal

We change our CAS server and just about everything is flowing fine through
our new CAS server, to the point we're ready to decommission the old one. We
can take the old one offline by disabled in the NIC and email still flows as
expected.

My next step is to decommission the old CAs server by uninstalling Exchange.
What is the potential risk at this point if Exchange doesn't cleanly
uninstall? I ask because trying to upgrade it to E2K10SP3 errors with the
message "Windows installer: the feature you are trying to use is on a
resource that is unavailable", and then when I address that I get other
errors and as I'm resolving them (keep in mind I am trying to go from
E2K10SP2 RU0 to E2K10 SP3), it seems like I need to install some SP2 rollups
before leaping to SP3, but I get an error just trying to install SP2 RU1.

I'm wondering if I will run into these same issues trying to uninstall
Exchange 2010 altogether.
